Wrapping Up Spring Attendance: Prepare for End-of-Term Success with LectureLogger

As the spring semester winds down, now is the time to get your attendance records in order and make the end-of-term process as smooth as possible.

LectureLogger’s latest features, like flexible reporting options and time-saving attendance management tools, are designed to help you finalize grades with ease.

Plus, with our upcoming freemium plan, continuing with LectureLogger next semester will be more affordable than ever. Here’s how to close out your spring courses efficiently and set yourself up for an even easier fall:

Step 1: Access Your Dashboard

Log into your LectureLogger dashboard to begin. Your dashboard provides:

  • A summary of pending absences.

  • A list of your current courses.

Step 2: Manage Absence Excusal Requests

If your course allows for absence excusal requests, here's how to handle them:

  1. Click “Pending Absences” on your dashboard or navigate to the “Absences” tab.

  2. Review requests by selecting “View” next to each entry.

  3. Choose “Excused” or “Unexcused,” and add optional comments for students.

  4. Save your decision to move on to the next request automatically.

Tip: Skip this step if you do not handle excusal requests. LectureLogger adapts to your teaching style.

Step 3: Review and Export Attendance Data

Ensure your attendance records are accurate before finalizing grades:

  1. Go to the “Courses” tab to view all your classes.

  2. Select a course to review detailed attendance records:

    • Hover over the total absences to see excused vs. unexcused breakdowns.

    • Click “View” next to a student’s name for specific absence dates.

  3. Download attendance data by clicking “Download Report.” This creates an Excel file for easy filtering and analysis.

New: Choose Between Summary and Detailed CSV Reports

LectureLogger now offers two types of downloadable reports to suit your needs:

  • Summary Report: Provides an overview similar to the course detail page, including basic student details, total days attended, and a breakdown of excused and unexcused absences.

  • Detailed Report: Includes all information from the summary report, plus a day-by-day breakdown of each student’s attendance.

To access these reports, click the “View” button next to the desired course. At the top of the page, select the type of report you’d like and click “Download Report.”

Step 4: Put Your Data to Work

Use the exported Excel file to:

  • Quickly calculate final attendance grades.

  • Spot patterns or trends in absences.

  • Adjust grades based on your attendance policy.

  • Upload attendance records to your college or university’s learning management system, such as Canvas or Blackboard.

Step 5: Archive Completed Courses

Keep your dashboard clutter-free by archiving completed courses:

  1. Open the “Courses” tab.

  2. Click “Archive” in the “Actions” column for each finished course.

  3. Archived courses move to the “Archived” tab, where they remain accessible for reference. Students will no longer see the course on their main course “History” tab, but can view them if needed by clicking “View Archived.”
