NALSAP 2025 Recap: Attendance as a Catalyst for Student Success

Recently, LectureLogger had the opportunity to attend and exhibit at the 2025 NALSAP Conference, and it was one of the most rewarding experiences we’ve had as a company to date.

While our initial goal was to expand our reach in the law school space, what stood out even more was the quality of conversations — not just at our booth, but in the sessions and hallways — with advisors, student affairs professionals, and institutional leaders committed to improving student outcomes.

What We Learned: Attendance Matters More Than Ever

Across more than 50 conversations at the conference, and in several follow-up demos since, one thing became clear: attendance is foundational to how law schools support students.

In sessions focused on student success and retention, even when attendance wasn’t the formal topic, it kept coming up — as a key early indicator of disengagement, unmet needs, or risk of attrition. Advisors repeatedly emphasized that excessive absences are one of the top reasons they intervene, especially for first- and second-year law students.

This insight reinforces what we’ve always believed: LectureLogger doesn’t just track who shows up — it creates visibility and an environment of student support that leads to action.

Highlights from the Booth

We demoed features like:

  • Constantly changing QR code check-ins that prevent fraud

  • Excused absence documentation flows

  • Canvas LMS integration

  • Admin dashboards for early alerts

  • A sneak peek at our upcoming externship time tracking tool for ABA compliance

We also had the chance to clarify an important misconception we heard repeatedly: that the ABA still requires 80% attendance. While that’s no longer a strict rule, many schools still operate under that assumption — and struggle to document it consistently. LectureLogger makes it easy to enforce your attendance policy, whatever it is.

Product Direction: Inspired by Advisors

Hearing how schools like Liberty University are breaking down silos and sharing data across departments was incredibly encouraging. It confirmed that our roadmap — which includes features for advisor notes, absence-based early alerts, and time tracking for experiential learning — is aligned with real campus needs.

We’re especially motivated to help schools standardize communication around attendance, reduce the burden on professors, and ensure advisors have the data they need to catch struggling students early.

What’s Next

We’re proud to be gaining traction in the law school space — and we’re serious about making early intervention and compliance easier for institutions of all sizes. Attendance is about more than data; it’s about unlocking retention, supporting bar passage, and catching students before they fall through the cracks.

If you didn’t get a chance to stop by our booth, we’re offering free Pro access for one semester to law professors interested in piloting LectureLogger. Learn more or schedule a quick demo here: lecturelogger.com/law

Thanks again to the entire NALSAP community for a fantastic conference. We’ll see you again soon.
